Oushi Ashioki (芦沖 桜志 (あしおき おうし), Ashioki Ōshi) is a supporting character in the Sign of Affection manga. He is the childhood friend of Yuki Itose who learned sign language for her and is very good at it.
History[]
When Oushi was little, he went with his sister to the compulsory civic center. He there saw a girl who did not speak, but signed. That caught his attention and he began to learn sign language. Although he is Yuki Itose's childhood friend, he is particularly close to her because she attended a school for the deaf until she graduated. However, they started talking again in college.
Appearance[]
Oushi has short black hair, his eyes are green in color and he is about the same height as Yuki Itose.
Personality[]
Although Oushi has a good-natured personality, he is frank and somewhat childish, and his concern for Yuki Itose makes him overprotective.

Oushi knows Yuki quite well and he is jealous about her relationship with Itsuomi Nagi since he's in love with her. Unfortunately for him, she likes the latter.
Etymology[]
- The name Oushi means "cherry blossom" (桜) (Ō) and "will, purpose" (志) (shi).
- The kanji "桜" in his given name Ō (桜) can also be written/read as Sakura (桜).
- Oushi's surname Ashioki means "reed" (芦) (ashi) and "offshore, ocean, high sea/high seas/open sea/mid-sea, blue water, main, mare liberum" (沖) (oki).
