"The World of Yuki" is the first chapter of A Sign of Affection Manga series. It has been compiled within volume 1, and is written and illustrated by Suu Morishita.

Plot

Yuki, a girl who is deaf, is on the train after having gone shopping at the sales. While she is looking at her friend Rin's posts, a foreigner starts asking her something. Since she doesn´t know how to explain to him that she doesn´t understand him, so she tries to communicate with signs, but the foreigner mistakes the sign for a greeting.

At that moment, with his back turned to Yuki, someone starts to ask the foreigner, and he starts talking to him. Yuki turns around strangely and sees the person, who turns out to be Itsuomi, a college classmate from the same club that Rin belongs to.

Once the foreigner gets off the train, Yuki turns to thank Itsuomi, showing her the hearing aids. Seeing that he doesn't understand her, she starts typing on her phone, but Itsuomi interrupts her and asks if she can read their lips, to which Yuki affirms. it´s then that Itsuomi, with pauses in each word or phrase, explains what the foreigner wanted.

Itsuomi tells Yuki that it´s the first time he has seen a deaf signer. Yuki answers that they go to the same university, and that she is Rin's friend. Itsuomi turns around when he hears the announcement of arrival at the stop. He asks if she's getting off at the same station or not, Yuki tells him she's getting off at the next one.

When Itsuomi tells her "See you later," Yuki's heart races without knowing why.

The next day, Rin confirms his identity and gives her information about him, such as that he is a backpacker who goes abroad every now and then, and that he works in a cafe-bar run by his cousin, of whom Rin is in love with. Rin asks Yuki if she wants to go, so she can get the courage to ask Itsuomi for his number.

When they enter the café-bar, Itsuomi is there. Yuki is surprised to see his appearance, which is different from when they first met.

Yuki and Rin sit at the bar, and Kyouya greets them, but is surprised that Yuki doesn´t greet him back, to which Rin explains her situation. Yuki realizes that they´re talking about her and looks down embarrassed...

Then Itsuomi lifts Yuki's head and asks her what she wanted to drink. Although Yuki seems flustered, she realizes that he didn't do it with bad intentions seeing that he didn't know how to get her attention. Itsuomi brings her a whiteboard.

After that, Itsuomi and Yuki continue talking on the whiteboard.

Rin gathers her courage and asks Kyôya for his contact information (although very nervously). Seeing this, Yuki also wanted to ask Itsuomi, but she begins to think that in writing it may sound too serious, and she takes it back.

As Yuki and Rin are about to leave, Itsuomi appears and asks them if they want him to come with them. Rin tells her that she lives nearby, so she turns him down, but she tells him to accompany Yuki.

As Yuki wonders how to ask him for his contact number, Itsuomi suddenly pulls her towards him. The reason was that a motorcycle was coming from behind her, but since Yuki doesn't hear, she didn't know what was coming. From that moment, Itsuomi held her hand, and they begin to walk together.

Yuki begins to wish he wouldn't let her go. Seeing the snow piling up on them, she gives it a tug to get her attention.

She writes on her mobile that can she have his mobile number. Itsuomi remains thoughtful, and asks him how to say "Fine" in sign language. Yuki shows it to him, and then he answers her.

After saying goodbye at the train station, Yuki and Itsuomi begin walking in opposite directions.

While walking, Yuki asks him through messages if the world is big, to which Itsuomi replies that it´s incredibly big, and then he asks for him to enter her world.

Not knowing what to answer, Yuki turns around, smiles at her and draws a large circle with both hands symbolizing that he can enter her world. Seeing him, Itsuomi smiles involuntarily.
