"Unseen" is the third chapter of A Sign of Affection. It has been compiled within volume 1, and is written and illustrated by Suu Morishita.

Plot

At the university, Yuki looks for Rin, finding her talking to her clubmates. Since they hadn't really met, she hesitates to interrupt her.

At that moment, Ôshi asks her in sign language why she is standing there. Yuki answers that she is waiting for a friend. Seeing how animated the conversation between Rin and her friends are, he interprets the conversation to Yuki, but she didn't want to know.

Yuki wonders why Ôshi's signs are always sharp but his slender gentle fingertips feels as though he is worried about her.

At that moment, Itsuomi, who was coming from behind her, collides with her. As a way of apology, he pats her head and leaves to meet with the club.

Yuki blushes, and Ôshi wonders what was that. Ôshi continues to insist that she shouldn't be too trusting.

Itsuomi watches the conversation between Yuki and Ôshi from a distance.

Suddenly, Rin hugs Yuki from behind her and talks to her. Ôshi gets upset and says that she may scare Yuki as she is not being able to hear the footsteps approaching her. Rin apologizes, but Yuki doesn't know what they are talking about.

Yuki confirms to Rin that what she feels is love. After that, Yuki and Rin plan to take advantage of the vacation now that spring break is here, to make some progress with both Itsuomi and Kyôya respectively. Yuki wonders if the two of them have girlfriends. Rin confirms that they do not, because she has already checked it out.

Yuki has her doubts about approaching Itsuomi, since she doesn't know how to go about it. Itsuomi, feeling observed by her, looks at her. She greets him in sign language. Seeing that there is no response, she signs, "What's up?" Not knowing that sign, Itsuomi asks her in message, and upon receiving her response, he signs it to her.

Yuki, who has been led by Rin to the group, proposes to Itsuomi to teach him about sign language. He accepts.

Later that night, Yuki makes a sign language notebook for Itsuomi, but according to her mother, the drawings come out very ugly, making Yuki upset.

Later, Yuki visits together with Rin at the bar-cafe where Kyôya and Itsuomi work. While they are at the bar, Rin notices that the hearing aids are ringing. Itsuomi asks why and Yuki explains, using a whiteboard. That when the hearing aid is not right, it makes feedback sounds from not being positioned properly. Itsuomi asks her how far she can hear. Yuki confirms that she cannot distinguish "sounds" or know where they come from, that she has it from birth and without hearing aids, she does not hear anything.

Kyôya gets upset with Itsuomi for asking him that question, and apologizes to her. But Yuki is happy with the interest Itsuomi has shown her, and tries to get his attention, she gives him the sign language notebook. He asks her how to say his name, "Itsuomi" in sign language. When she tried to sign his name, she notices his slender fingers and doesn't realize that Itsuomi is watching her. She blushes and Itsuomi quickly notices her. He thinks that she looks like the Laos's keychain, to which Ihe even comments.

Itsuomi tells her that he doesn't understand her drawings, and that he wants her to show him directly. He asks her what signs she usually uses. While they practice, Yuki stares at Itsuomi's hands and involuntarily blushes and lowers her head.

Itsuomi lifts her chin and makes her look at him, but she freezes. Rin tells Itsuomi that Yuki gets scared (and even more so if they come from him) if he does that to her. Itsuomi apologizes. Yuki writes that it's okay if he does it.

Yuki wonders that if when he sees that written , he will notice that she is falling for him. She and Itsuomi stare at each other.
